When is it not safe to overtake another vehicle?

Overtaking another vehicle is particularly dangerous when you are approaching a junction or the crest of a hill. In these situations, visibility may be limited, and other vehicles may be turning into or out of the junction or coming over the hill, potentially creating a scenario where an accident could occur.

At a junction, vehicles may be positioned in ways that are not immediately visible to you, and turning vehicles could enter your path unexpectedly. Similarly, when approaching the top of a hill, you might not have a clear view of the road ahead, making it impossible to judge if it is safe to overtake.

In contrast, overtaking in a straight section of the road, on highways, or during daylight hours typically allows for clearer visibility and more predictable driving conditions. Thus, those situations are generally not considered inherently unsafe for overtaking when proper caution is exercised.
